Building for your and yourlife style

In previous times, when the housing market was in full swing, remodeling was preliminary completed with the homes resale value in mind. When I was working my way through college, I would clean homes for income. It was super flexible with my school schedule. One of the things I notice was that a lot of people’s homes were not set up for their personal use. There was one family, whom I loved dearly that lived in a 3500 sq ft 2 story home. They had a relatively small enclosed kitchen with a breakfast bar. Even though they had abundant space they lived in the kitchen. It had a desk with a computer, a sewing desk and the breakfast bar doubled as a hobby center. It was amazing that the whole family, all seven of them, would crowd into the kitchen area all doing different things in such a small space. That’s when I started offering space redesign and organization as well as cleaning. I redesigned a very large playroom into a combination space for the computer and sewing desk and added a hobby section. Since they loved being together, the combined space was perfect for them and then when it was time to cook in the kitchen, they had room to move around.
How does this translate into remodeling? The first thing to think about when you are considering an addition and or remodeling is how you actually live your life. If you were remodeling for re-sale, you would most likely concentrate on the kitchen, baths and curb appeal. But with people living in their homes for an average of 5 to 15 years, now it’s the perfect time to remodel for the way you live your life.

When assessing your home ask yourself the following questions: What are your needs, wants and dreams? Needs being items that are necessary like another bedroom when you are expecting twins! Or an enlarged bathroom, in-law quarters, ability in place. Then there is the wants, vaulted ceilings, kitchen island, master suite. And last but not least the dream items with items like a see through fireplace, double French doors, raised and coffered ceilings.

Then consider what is important to you. It is important that your home aesthetically represent you and be functional at the same time. Are you a gourmet cook or a microwave cook? If you are a gourmet cook, you will need lots of storage room and possibly larger and or more appliances. We often install double ovens with a dishwasher and dishwasher drawers for the cooking enthusiast. If you are a microwave cook, you could spend your money in other areas of your home that you spend a lot of time in. We also install pass troughs for families that like to experience the open and connectedness and have some definition to the space.

Living in a space that represents you and your lifestyle offers comfort, beauty and peace. Happy remodeling.
